Re: Martins a little late.

Well guys,I’ve looked at the map everyday and as of this morning early I hadn’t shown any purple dots. So ,how do make martins show up and get to eat crow? Just send the word out that they are late and Shazam there they are!! Glad to see em makin it. What about that gulf crossing question, any guesse...

Martins a little late.

Ok I’m always outa the box,so I’m gonna put it out there. With all the early arrivals I couldn’t help but notice there are ZERO arrivals in Texas ! The first arrivals last year show 14th & 15th of January. So far none . So with all the early birds being a week to two weeks early ,it seems a little s...

Re: Luring ASY martins from an existing colony?

Hi there Dave,I about LMAO at your take on my little scenario here. I tried to explain about the fact that even though he has had birds in the past he could make improvements to enhance his “site attractibility factor” to the birds. I don’t feel as though I stole his birds,I just #1have a better fly...

Re: Luring ASY martins from an existing colony?

SCleland, gooday. After some thought I thought I would bring up some other points about getting your birds going. You notice where rrmartins mentions having a good setup? Well I’ll tell of a situation of that. I have this neighbor about 600-700 yards away, and traditionally before I set up for martin...

Re: They are coming

Hi there Dave, well here we are again, excited and waiting! Looks like the reports are pretty in line with last year. There were 11 reports as there is now by 1-7-20. So a few got in there a day or two early, fronts and winds can help that I would guess. I should see some activity here in central Louis...

Re: Luring ASY martins from an existing colony?

SCleland, what these guys are telling you is correct. It is unlikely established martins will leave their site. Follow their advice cause this ain’t their first rodeo. I started with just a couple of houses and then added a good batch of gourds for a choice and went from one lone nut the first year,...

Re: Free T-14 and Pole

Hey whippy, good luck on your trip today. Send us some pics of your lucky find as you can ,I’d be interested in seeing it! I guess I’m the lucky one..the wife likes the satellite rack better than the wooden rack I had. She has in fact encouraged me to look into the 11’ one I have located and use it i...

Re: Two December arrivals, LA and FL

Hey y’all, excited to see the beginning of the year kickin off. I must say just for curiosity’s sake I would be interested to know the situation under which the birds were reported. I have no doubt about the sightings as those guys are long time martineers and absolutely know what they have seen. Bu...

Re: New satellite rack with naturals all prenested and painted

Thanks again guys. Dean you remember what I said about upside down. That may or may not come to be,we’ll see. The current arrangement may do well. The “inside” ones ..I eyeballed it and measured up the curve 15” drilled a hole through and wired through it ,it leaves the hole about 2” below the outsi...

Re: New satellite rack with naturals all prenested and painted

Thanks guys,it was a fairly easy project as well as a pleasure to do. Knowing that now I won’t have any wood rot and failure it was an easy goal to pursue. I have my eye on an 11’ satellite that I just may incorporate for next season, as I like the way this all worked out. I’ve a small tweak or two ...

Re: Any bets on the first arrival southern tip of Texas or Florida ?

Congratulations to my fellow Louisianan on the first report. Awful early and just blows my mind and sadly also blows my chances for the Harley, durnit. That is also only an hour south of me which means I better get on the stick here man and get my gourds up! You would think it’s an isolated incident,...

Re: New gourd rack ready to go on pole

Hey there dean thanks ,and good to hear from ya. It was a pretty easy job to get it ready and it’s super light being aluminum,I mean only a few pounds, you can pick it up with one finger! The only thing steel are the two round disc’s in the center and the piece of pipe I had welded there. The disc’s ...

Re: I’m ready for some Purple Martin Scout Reports

Hi Dave,Dave, and kegger, I’m in on the bet for first arrivals. Gotta have the Harley man,by the way does it already have the XM Sirius module installed with a years free service? Hey look I’m with y’all on being ready for some scout reports and for our birds to return! Mine began to show up the last...
