The Sialis Bluebird web page also cites that Wrens will destroy Bluebird nest in a matter of a few minutes. I like to listen to them sing. But, they can present a problem. I have two different species of Wrens at my location, but, only one time have I wondered if they were the culprits removing Blue...

I'm also late to this thread. I do not have Martins yet. There are no colonies in over 20 miles from my site. However, I have experienced NO EGGS hatch this year from all the Blubird nest. I had two pair sit on their nest which were both 10 days overdue to hatch. They finally gave up, and I immediat...

The HOSP are EXCELLENT KILLERS. Their sneaky, and, they WILL do their killing in GANGS too. I watched this year as they started ganging up on Bluebirds. I was unaware at the time how they operated. HOSP and Starlings have to be eliminated. They are BOTH DANGEROUS to our native birds. They have the c...

I found out what the mystery bird I referred to above is. It's a Crested Flycatcher. The dang Mockingbirds attack anytime it wants to come around. I saw it again this morning and it came to a mature Pecan tree, sat there perched on a limb for a couple minutes then it went over and perched on the fen...

It should work after it has evaporated. When the critters crawl around, they pick it up and carry it up on their legs. Sorta like bugs do when they crawl through boric acid; they carry it on their legs and then crawl over their eggs and kills the eggs. As long as there is a residual for them to craw...

Years ago, my grandfather use to spray sevin in liquid form. He had a contraption which looked like a quart jar connected to water hose. He would add the sevin dust to the jar (connect hose) and it would add water to the sevin dust and go out into the the sprayng water. He did this on his veggies, t...

Excellent. The rain started continuously here at around 5 a.m. this morning and has not had a break. Moderate to heavy rain. We may get 6 inches which ia now going to aggravate the Red River flooding down stream in areas of: Eastern Texas Arkansas Louisana Lake Texoma held back huge amounts of water...

I'm located a hour north of Dallas along the Red River (Sherman/Denison area). The rain started here yesterday. Light to heavy rain for a hour, and stopped for several hours and start again. I was in two different Counties today (Cooke/Grayson which border Oklahoma) and same weather pattern. I'm lik...

My Bad ! It came Back ! AND Again, I didn't have a camera, But IT WAS a Scissor Tail Flycatcher AFTER all! I went out to see the Fledglings fly around before the storms that are expected here this afternoon, and sure as heck, there was the gray-ish bird on top of the same tall dead branches ! As th...

Thanks for the replies everyone, Louise, I wish I had a camera/phone 0n me, but it happened rather quickly. I still see the image in my head of those swallow shape wings, Lt. Gray colored breast area & that slightly longer Gray V tail than a PM. I'm trying to look up Texas birds again & check out a...

I don't think spray or running sprinklers "under" the gourds would/will have any impact on the cavity temp inside. It may make it a shade higher in humidity levels, which in the south, we have enough already. Best way is to shade the sun OFF the cavities or housing. Without direct sunlight, the cavi...
