Nest replacement due to mite infestation

Hey folks. We had to do a nest replacement yesterday because one of our gourds were infested with mites. What seemed like millions of mites were pouring out of the nest when we did a nest check yesterday. It is very gratifying to do nest checks and catch things like this. The babies were still in ve...

My husband, Bert, does the trapping and "managing" of the sparrows and starlings. I was against it at first, but then he started showing me the murdered babies and destroyed eggs. I changed my tune pretty quick. Now I'm his helper! Good luck getting the wife and kids on board. But even if the...

Hello fellow Texan. Did you put any nesting material inside of your gourds? That might help encourage them to adopt your site as their new colony

Babies in Sugar Land, TX

Sorry for the late report, but we found 14 newly hatched babies during our nest check Sunday. We also found more nests with eggs. We are at full occupancy and some Martins are sleeping on the porches at night. Last week Bert hung two new gourds under one of the metal Coats houses and within an hour ...

You're the first person I've seen, using the Coates "flagship" 28-room house. They're great looking houses. Thanks, Matt. Bert modified the 28 rooms into 14 deluxe apartments, two rooms per apartment. It was very successful last year. Bert really doesn't like it too much because he is a major gourd...

Eggs in Sugar Land, Tx

For the past week we have watched our martins bring leaf after leaf to the nests. And they have been mudding too. We were not surprised to find eggs in two of the gourds today! There were 3 eggs in each gourd. We also have Coates houses that are very active, but no eggs yet. We are off to another go...

Sugar Land, TX - Our season begins!

Hey folks, This morning I got a glimpse of a Purple Martin flying high. That was the first one I have seen this year. I was very happy even though it didn't make contact with our gourds. But I received a serenade this evening by three Purple Martins this evening while I cooked some fish on the grill...

We have excluder gourds. Our Coates accustomed Martins avoided them at first. As the Coates filled up, the Excluder Gourds became attractive and we had great success with them. I hope you have the same good experience with them. Just a little note about our experience last year with the excluder gou...

Our martins pretty much ignor our house dogs (Italian Greyhounds) until they have chicks in the nest. Then they take turns dive bombing the dogs. The dogs pretty much ignor the dive bombs. I find none of this is stressful for the PMs or our dogs. We always check for fallen chicks befor we let the do...

Hi everyone, Bert and I will be there at the meeting. But we are not real sure where it is. We have only lived in the Houston area for a few years. We Googled Cy-Fair College to see where it is. We came up with this address: 14955 Northwest Fwy, Houston, TX. Can someone please confirm this is where ...
