John,

Thank you for sharing the link. It seems Texas is not a good place for the martins this year. I am feeding most of the time as well....I am not going to watch my martins starve. Maybe someone can talk to Mother Nature ....:-)

I will feed my martins through this crazy weather and drought as long as I can....I am not going to watch the martins I invite in my backyard die as long as I can do something about it. I might not be able to save them all, but I will certainly try my very best. That is just my opinion and what I am...

Dick, I am so sorry for your sad nest check. I think Texas overall is in bad shape this year for hosting martins. Many people have laughed about me trying to feed my martins as often and as much as I can since our temps were high. But like at your place the winds have been so very high, and the drou...

We have been landlords for 8 years now, but it seems that the sparrows are especially bad this year. Usually, we shoot them but this year they go to the gourds that are not very accessible with a pellet gun. We put the PMCA trap out again and put crickets, worms and bread in them. Since yesterday we...

Louise, we now have more than 100 martins in our yard.....some of them are SYs. They are all eating off the boat and I posted a lot of Pics on CH and Facebook. It is wild out there but fortunately they know how to take care of my offers and should be fine whether they stay or move on north...I so lo...

Supplemental Feeding

Even though it is not very cold in Corpus Christi, South Texas, it is a very windy and very hazy day. Not a good weather for bug hunting for the martins  Since I have all kind of crickets and worms in the freezer and the martins are used to eat off the boat, I put some food out for them thinkin...

I am so happy to hear that you are going out of your way to help the martins survive. It is not easy to get them to eat supplemental food, but with lots of patience and lots of love we all will succeed. It is an awesome feeling to see how they trust us and know we are helping them. Keep up the great...

I will always try to save a martin, no matter what it takes. I will not watch a martin or more starve to death. I know it is a heated subject, but I do not think it should be...If you invite the martins to your backyard then you should treat them like guests and take care of them ALL the way...just ...

I really do not have much to report for this season so far..... A) First the martins were late B) Then there were more martins than ever around this time... C) They are more social and stay more "at home" than usual... D) Other than two "batches" of migrating martins (each around 20 birds or so) no ...
