We just installed the quick release pole guards and the description that comes with it said to wax the pole guard once a year in order for it to stay slippery. I think we will probably wax it more than that since we are on the (salt) water. I do not know about the oxidizing though

We put these quick release predator guards up a week ago. They have a very smooth texture so snakes should not be able to climb up there. They are installed easy and fast, and can be removed in seconds (as Dick said). You are supposed to wax them once a year in order to keep them slippery. The upper...

Bran, Congratulations on the arrival on your martins and on being back on the Forum....I too got very impatient waiting after reading all the arrival reports, but then with the weather being so bad for a long time I thought it is probably better that our birds were not back yet. I think that helped ...

Ron,

These pictures are amongst the best looking pictures of martins I have ever seen. :) :) :) May I ask what type of camera you used, the detail and the colors are unbelievable and of course, this couple is ADORABLE.
Wishing you and your martins all the best for this season :!:

When we first started John Barrow (our mentor) told us to put some nesting material in the gourds and he gave us some pine needles. The following year I ordered the pine straw and the corn fodder from the PMCA. I always order in the middle of December because it can take 3-4 weeks before it arrives....

I might be over for that....sounds like you are a great landlord....best wishes for this martin season with lots of happy and healty marti...

THis is our 5th season as martin landlords. We never had hawk problems (at least not that we know off) until this season. It started out bad with one of our first birds being taken of the perch by a "Sharpie" right in front of our eyes. Since then this guy has been back every day, and we try to be o...

We too, try to be outside as much as we can, but it is not the same as it was for the previous four years. Whe...

We have predator guards. They are "converted" buckets with a 24" diameter. However, the nest checks are very difficult with this setup so we ordered some Quick Release Pole Guards from the PMCA. They should arrive this week. Maybe it was a seagull? Thanks for all your help :???:
