This is a neat house and I really like the idea of having the opening in the back of the cavity. It should make the nest checks easier because you are right there were you need to be. Keep the pictures coming

Bob,

The house looks very nice and solid. Is the door with the knob part of the compartment on the left of the picture, or does it belong to a compartment in the back of the picture? How big are the nest compartments?
I have not seen snow in a loooooooong time....thanks for the treat

Dick, First of all congrats again on your arrival in "Blue #7" Also, I got to see the pictures of your systems today and I have to say it looks very impressive. The birds that are going to stay with you are going to love it there, and the colours are awesome. As to the pole guard I am quoting ...

I did a little bit moe checking on the Rehabilitation issue and found the following site. Choose the letter "L" for Louisiana which is way on the bottom of the page and then there is different names, addresses and phone numbers. I guess you would need to check each one of them out in order to see wh...

Martha,

I saw them online at the PMCA shop. They have them for round poles and for square poles in 2" and 3" diameter.

Dick,

Congratulations :!: This is too cool that the ASY male choose your blue gourd with the #7, obviously your favorites. I think it is a sign that you will have a great martin season with lots of happy and healthy martins.

Quick Release Pole Guard For 2" Square Pole

God Morning James, Thank you for your reply on the pole guard. Twelve Martins Roosting In Troyer Horizontal Gourd

Hello Steve, Thank you for your response. I think it is great that you are doing all the martin research and are watching out for them the way you do. When I was telling you about our hawks I thought this is the way it always is... our hawks they are actually sitting on our roof, railing of the deck...

Twelve Martins Roosting In Troyer Horizontal Gourd

Hi Steve, About the hawk hanging around....The past two years the hawks showed up at our place right before the martins were supposed to be back, and when they were the hawks were showing up out of the blue. Unfortunately, I/we cannot be here 24/7, but whenever I am/we are, I have used the garden ho...

Bird ID question

Hi Bob, It sounds like it propbably is a Woodpecker. I looked it up in my bird book and thought is was a "Northern Flicker", but then it also looked like a "Ladder-Backed Woodpecker" and like a "Red-Cockaded Woodpecker", and........ there are several Woodpeckers that fit your description. I think yo...

Quick Release Pole Guard For 2" Square Pole

Hello Martin Friends, I have a question on predator guards. The last few years we used "homemade ones" which were converted buckets. They worked real good except for the nest check part. It was a real hassle getting the bucket off the pole, lower the house, attach the bucket back to the pole..... Ha...

How to get them to eat crickets

Bob, I love your idea!!!! So far we never really had to feed our martins but we always have a freezer full of crickets just in case. .. I always worry that if I should have to feed them they might use up a lot of energy which if they cannot find bugs on their own, obviously they do not anyway. Also,...

Starling Question

We too live on the water and we do have a Starling problem. Even though we successfully use our airgun for Starling control it seems there is always 8-10 Starlings hanging around. It is almost like you "take care" of one, another one shows up. They always nest in our neighbours boatlift which is dir...

nestcam - blessing or curse

Jeanne, I do understand your concern for your ASY male very, very well. I call myself obsessive when it comes to the birds (or any other animal). I always want to do things perfect. Being a worrier keeping an eye on your bird with the nestcam is probably the best you can do. That way you are aware o...
