We have one martin but he did entertain me today.
What tickled me, I walked into the back yard about 10:30 AM, and that martin dive-bombed me, like they do when they have newly hatched babies. . I thought he may be upset because I had 3 of the gourd racks up, and 3 down. Instead of flying away, he tried to scare me away. Of course, I had on a fur cap, a heavy coat, and maybe he did not recognize me.....anyway, I thought it was funny.
How new martins act sometimes

2005 - Added a gourd rack- many more pairs
2007 - Added another gourd rack, gave the Coates houses away
2008-2015 - Experimented with many gourds & a few racks (its a sickness) fledged over 200 chicks/year. Hubby keeps records, not me. :-)
2016 - 64 gourds and expect most will be occupied
Bert and I think that's funny too.
By the way, we are still Martinless. Yesterday My mind played tricks on me and kept turning other birds into Martins.
Maybe today we will see one for realz!

I agree Emil - I'll bet he didn't recognize you since you were all bundled up.
You've got yourself a good "guard Martin" there.

We are back to 3 martins, I thought that 2 left, but maybe they were here all the time. They are sitting out in the sun, but windy temps in the low 40s and its supposed to rain tomorrow, so I hope that they find some bugs.

We watched for them until dark last night. Nada. Ha ha! Obviously, year 2015 obsession with Purple has begun. Now all we need is the purple. I'm not complaining. Anticipation is part of the fun.
