Before the age of 20 days, is it a safe and acceptable practice to handle nestlings? I mean, take one out of the nest to look at or show to someone else?

Diane,

Yes it is. When a nest change is performed we take the babies out of their nest and put them in a bucket or box as we change out the material in the cavity. No harm is done.
