Anybody ever see martins stealing eggs from a nest? This year I lost two Martin eggs from different nest and today on a check two ofour blue bird eggs from a nest in the Martin house were missing. Don’t have a sparrow problem, never seen a starling around all season, nothing from the ground could be climbing pole, don’t have squirrels, never seen a hawk around. My thoughts are a bird but only ones I see at house are martins, besides one bluebird couple. The blue birds built nest after all martins had hatched so I let it stay. Can’t find any evidence in researching that martins steal eggs. Did read they take hatchlings but couldn’t find anything about eggs. I’m stumped.

Martin Colony History: The 1972 St. Agnes flood wiped out all the Martins in my area. One day, in 1997-98, 5 or 6 Martins landed on the power wires crossing my back yard. I had no house for them. They kept coming back day after day. We got a martin house a few weeks later & they have been coming back every year since. I average 12-15 pair per year.

They will toss bad eggs, so it's possible that's what happened. Not all eggs are fertile.
