Martin Colony History: 2016 First Yr.

There is a Purple Martin Roost started up in NE Ohio at Nimisila Reservoir

Its located up around Green Ohio you can see it off of Dock 6 with binoculars

Supposedly its more visible if you have a small boat.
2016 - 14 Compartments 4 Active Nests 9 fledged, 2.25 Fledged per Active Nest
2017 - 36 Compartments 18 Active Nests 65 Fledged, 3.61 Fledged per Active Nest
2018 - 54 Compartments 43 Active Nests 169 Fledged, 3.93 Fledged per Active Nest
2019 - 108 Compartments 67 Active Nests 209 Fledged, 3.12 Fledged per Active Nest
2020 - 108 Compartments 72 Active Nests 243 Fledged, 3.38 Fledged per Active Nest
2021 - 110 Compartments

i tried putting it in to the roost, Yes its active !

Had the opportunity to visit the Nimisila Reservoir on Saturday evening Aug 22nd and it had a lot of birds, I guessed 10,000 + and my wife thinks that guess is way to low....A lot of birds for sure if you have a small trolling motor on your boat you can get out there real well and close in a kayak or canoe would do the trick as well....Lots of folks at the reservoir with kayaks and canoe's

Martin Colony History: In 2020, 60 pair with 285 fledged youngsters. 83 total cavities available, 58 Troyer Horizontal gourds and 4 modified deep trio metal house units, 1 fallout shelter, owl cages around all units. 200,000 is hugemongous. That would be about 1/5th of all migratory martins that reach Causeway Bridge over Lake Pontchartrain down south.
Mite control, heat venting, predator protection and additional feeding during bad weather add up to success.
