  • My colony has been on Jordan Cove in Waterford CT for 6 years. I am currently mentoring one person now. Last season I fledged 47 from 11 pair. The housing consists of 16 gourd rack - new this year and a T-14 with four gourds. I gave my first house - Trio Grandpa to my mentee. I feel the key to success is location, location, location and good management.

  • I have my new purple martin house. 12 units. I will be putting it up at a lake house on Candlewood Lake in New Fairfield, CT. Since I will be putting up the pole with quik crete in the hole, want to be sure I have a good site. After reading a lot on different web sites am also concerned is June 30th/July 1 too late to be putting it up?

  • Installed our martin house (commercial kit) two years ago. We tried smearing mud on house but still no martins (or other birds trying to take over the house) Can anyone offer suggestions that worked for them in this geographic area? We located it in middle of field, away from house and trees. Field is high point and does get wind from north..is that a factor that might discourage them? I have cleaned martin house and it is ready to go up.

  • Installed our first martin house in mid-May (Heritage Farms Quad-Pod) but no martins yet. I think our location is pretty good - our home is near Candlewood Lake in a suburban/semi-rural area in NW CT. Our yard is open/grassy and martin house is positioned away from trees. We are playing dawnsong. Help - what else can we do?! Are there other martin landlords in our area (northern Fairfield county) who can give advice? If so, please email me. Many thanks!

  • Just received a house as a gift because of a spawned interest in attracting martins. Upon further reading im not sure i have a desireable location. There are a few possibilities that i see that might work, however, i am looking for some guidance to get started.
