  • I have 2 pairs of bluebirds. One pair has raised 3 broods. I ordered natural gourds and put them up this year for Purple Martins. Finally young adult martins showed up this month but they do not come near the gourds. They fly around the neighborhood though. They are too large to be tree swallows. I would like a mentor.

  • I have been putting up our house for about 10 years. I made the mistake of locating it too close to a pine tree. Thanks to Hurricane Isabelle, the tree is no longer there. Last year I had a pair of martins start building a nest, but they deserted it after a few days. This year a pair have been occupying the house for almost a week. They are there early in the morning when I leave for work and I have seen them at 3 and around 5 on two different afternoons. I never see them come to the house at dark. Are they staying or just teasing me?

  • I have had martins for over 10 years until last year when we converted our aluminum house to all crescents. When the martins came back last spring they could not enter and eventually abandoned the house. So as a result we lost the colony last year and don't have one this year. We are trying to start again and appreciate any help.
