- This is my fifth year that I have been a landlord. I set up twenty four nesting sites in 2005 for the first time, and they have been coming every year since then.
I consider myself to be very lucky to get Martins to nest in my back yard on the first try.
I have about ten to twelve nesting pairs each year. In the 2008 season I counted twenty four fledgelings that made it.
I have done my homework, I try to do everything I can to have as successful year for my Martins as I possibly can.
The Purple Martin is a wonderful fun bird to watch. Its up to us to be as good a landlord as we possibly can to insure and secure there future for generations to come.

- July 16, 2008 The Martins left today while I was at work. It was
really quiet around the house today. I'll miss the mornings of chatter
by the Martins.
I started with one 12 compartment house six years ago. Two years ago,
another house was put up. We started with 4 birds. Now there are too
many to count.
I wish there could be more publicity about the birds. More people
would like them, if they only knew how great these birds are at eating insects.

- Now in our 6th year, we have an active colony of 32 PM\'s nesting in round hole, supergourds. We are in the Panhandle of Florida, our rack sits on the edge of a lake on the Hombre Golf Course. I also monitor a Bluebird Trail of 30 nest boxes, and will be designing a nestbox for resident red-belly woodpeckers this coming spring. I\'m happy to share my knowledge and experience with anyone, just call or email anytime.

- I have had martins for the past 15 years at my farm and have helped persons throughout my county establish colonies. This past season I had 76 pairs at my farm and 4 pairs at my new home. The new home was a first time offering. I would be delighted to assist anyone in establishing martin habitat and raising awareness about the wonderful, exciting, Purple Martin.

- I currently have two 12 family houses and plan to add another this year. I have two neighbors who also have a 12 family house each and they would like to add more houses, also. We had a good colony this past year and would like to continue to increase our numbers. Any advice for having martins in a subdivision would be greatly appreciated.

- I would like to establish a Purple Martin colony on my property and I’m looking for some guidance on how to do this right. I’m trying to use them to help with mosquito control. I’ll be using bats and bug eating plants as well. I like working with nature instead of using pesticides.

- The Martins arrived in April. Eggs hatched. Babies left the nests by June 19. Now they've all moved across the street to roost in a neighbor's pine tree! Three came back for a visit today. This is my first experience with Martins and my wife and I have enjoyed them, but thought they would roost in the gourds and stay around our yard until they left. When will they leave So GA anyway?

- I guess the 3rd year was the charm in getting martins!! Finally, have a pair nesting and possibly more. I can't tell just yet. I did a nest check about 1 week after nest building. The martins seemed leary and I was afraid I had scared them away. They are still here and I have been doing walk unders for the last few days. Plan to do a nest check tomorrow to make sure nest competitors aren't building. Would love to have a mentor to coach me in my firsts in being a martin landlord. How exciting this is!! Even my husband and daughter are becoming interested!
