  • We had a Purple Martin structure on our Corporate site, but it was not managed properly and did not have any Purple Martins nesting, only Tree Swallows. The wooden parts of the structure fell down this winter, so I am now trying to learn what needs to be done for a successful site and mainteance program. I would appreciate any and all help with this.

  • I am very interested in getting started. I live on the water and have a dock which I think may be a good place for the Purple Martins.

  • My housing was installed late June 2007. While we did see Martins fly by last summer, they did not stay to nest. As of today, May 8, we have not seen martins in our area. We have seen Martins in high numbers at our resevoir. Many are nesting about 2 miles away between our creek, the river and the bay. Starlings and swallows invaded our house. I removed them immediately. I\'ve closed the housing to keep the other birds from nesting.

  • I\'d really appreciate advice on the type of house/pole I should purchase, what accessories I need (particularly to protect against hawks and owls), and proper placement in my yard. I am eager to get this going and would like to order all necessary items ASAP. Thanks so much!

  • I used to raise Cockateils so I know a little about breeding and caring for birds. I am still confused as to the date to unplug my purple martin house. (I should be receiving it in about 5 days. It is equiped with crescent holes.) One guide said fledglings are in my area from April 1st and this site says April 15th. I don't live near any body of water except we have a pool and fountains. Will this be ok? The reason I am putting up housing for Purple Martins is that we live near an egg farm and we have loads of flys that are unbearable. They will have plenty of food here. Is there a special time to bring down the house to check for nests when the parent birds aren't in or on it?

  • I am trying for the first time this year. I have a T-14 type house that is made of aluminum. I am situated about half a mile from a tributary of the Raritan River, about a mile and a half from the Great Swamp, and there is the open space of a cemetery in my backyard. I would like someone to give me advice and critique my chances of success.
