  • I placed a martin house here, but may have placed it out too early; no activity until late July, when tree swallows started making nests, which I promptly removed, and closed all the holes; I did provide other housing for tree swallows, but they weren\'t interested. I did have a pair of bluebirds, though, so the season wasn\'t a total waste. I\'d love to hear from martin landlords in the Windsor County area of Vermont, or Sullivan County in New Hampshire, for some tips and suggestions.

  • We put up two purple martin houses last year and have had visits by martins which haven't stayed. Tree Swallows chased away the one martin that I saw this spring. I now have housing put up for tree swallows in the area which has taken the pressure away from the martin houses. I have been playing the dawnsong tape for since June 15th almost every morning. There is one colony about 2 miles from us and another 11 miles away. I would like to have an experienced mentor visit us to see if we should move the houses to different locations which might be better as well as tell me other things that I might be doing wrong.
