Re: GHO Owlets & Am. Kestrels

I have owl guards on six of my super gourds. On twelve of my super gourds I have added the Troyer tunnel to them. The last six gourds are troyer horizontal. Do you think I need to add owl guards to the super gourds w/tunnels or the troyer horizontal gourds? I have installed metal bars on my T-14 hou...

GHO Owlets & Am. Kestrels

I might still be in the Wannabe club after this year. I have a nesting pair of Great Horned Owls (see pictures of mama & owlets) about 300 feet from my PM houses and a American Kestrel pair nesting in a Wood duck house about 200 feet from my PM houses. I do have owl guards up on some of my housing; ...

Re: Earliest arrival ever!!!!

Congrats Lynn.

I know it is early for this request; but when any SY show up, please send them to my site. It is only 41 miles Northeast of New Sharon as the PM flies.

Re: Tree Swallows in Iowa.

Ed,

Thanks for the info - I downloaded and read the TS vs PM/BB vs PM Emergency paper by Dan Drew from the PMCA site.

I will follow it and see how it goes this year.

Re: Tree Swallows in Iowa.

Ed, Thanks for the reply back. The Tree Swallows that come have never tried to nest in my PM houses. They seem to prefer the Bluebird houses. I read that the Bluebird houses are to small for them, so this year I am using some super gourds that I am hoping they will use instead of the Bluebird houses...

Re: Tree Swallows in Iowa.

Ed, Now I am a little confused. I read a post earlier that if you can attract Tree Swallows; you stand a better chance of attracting PMs. I have notice during the migration that the Tree Swallows that pass thru my farm always have a few PMs mixed in with the group. I have an 18 acre farm with a 1 ac...

Re: Tree Swallows in Iowa.

Lynn, Good to hear. I am about 45 miles Northeast of New Sharon. I got two Tree Swallow gourds up yesterday and two Bluebird houses up last night. I plan to get the rest up this weekend. I have about 10 more Tree Swallow gourds to put up and about 4 more Bluebird houses. Thanks for the post. It made...

Re: For us "Wannabe" Landlords 2016

Count me in. I will be setting up my Tree Swallow gourds this week and then setting up my new-used gourd rack this weekend. I won't be opening up my houses yet; just getting excited. I trapped two House Sparrows in my shop yesterday. Easy shooting with the BB gun. The cats had fun chasing them aroun...

Re: Daytime Chatter - downloadable file

I took my Daytime Chatter and my Dawnsong CDs and ripped them to a mp3 file on my PC with Windows Media Payer. That's all you need to create your own downloadable file you can use on a PC.

Re: PM "Hater" ... NOT!

My wife found us a 18 acre farm with a 1 acre pond in 2011. I like to think she did this to help me attract PMs. I am still trying to attract my 1st nesting pair. I have had numerous visitors but no takers. My wife has traveled with me to pick up a new used gourd rack, Trio Grandpa and Grandma house...

Pellet Sampler Kit Results

Per Emil's recommendation - I bought a pellet sampler kit to see which pellet works the best from my PCP pellet gun. The sampler kit that I purchased has 18 different round headed pellets (25 pellets each pellet type). With that many different types of pellets and being an engineer I put together a ...

Pellet Recommendations

My PCP pelllet gun just arrived today and I will be spending this weekend getting it sighted in. Please provide recommendations for what pellets to use for the best accuracy (i.e. types & brands). I am really looking forward to taking the battle with the starling/sparrows to the next level. I curren...

Tim, It is good to hear that it is not to late in the season to attract a nesting pair. I am still hoping my SY male (Rafael) will find a mate. I haven't seen him in a couple of days so hopefully he will be coming back soon with a mate. Your post has given my hope that I can still have a nesting pai...

DanG, I really wish we could start a 'Martinsonly.com'. I think it would be a lot easier on us wannabe's and maybe the martins also. I have named my martin 'Raphael' after the angel that God sent down to help Tobiah and Sara. Raphael showed up after my prayer. I just hope he finds a mate soon. Not s...

Thanks John and Matt. I will definitely checkout the Fairhope Pier. It looks like a great place. I will have to make sure I pack my binoculars.
