Re: Tree Swallows

I sure hope it is a good spring for us northerners. The last couple springs have been rough on the martins during their migration north.

egg identification

I thought these eggs are from a meadow lark nest, but they normally nest in a pasture and this is in a tree. They are at my brother-in-laws farm and he cannot identify the bird. Does anyone else want to take a stab at what these are?? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v213/madattiver/Purple%20Martin...

Brad,

I am thinking I will be heading up to Prince Albert this week. How can I get a hold of you so I can plan for a stop on the way home for a visit and check out your site?

I just heard some action out back again and there were 4 martins flying above my place. My pair came in, then the next pair... It was a SY male and female. Not sure if the female was ASY or SY. They stayed briefly, then flew off again. The SY male was clicking all around and I could tell it was a ma...

Jeremy, I will forward this to post to Jerry Parent. He bands birds in and around the city and would be able to help you out. I know last year they put two bands on their birds, but previous years they only had one band. How many bands are on your bird and which leg is it on? This info will also hel...

My male martin was really working it this morning. I went out and checked and he had two SY birds circling the house. I couldn't tell the sexes as they were both light chested, but I just assumed they were SY birds. The female was up there with him as well helping him out. Ohh... would I ever like t...

Wow.. 6 pair?? That is pretty amazing for a first year at your current location. Everyone seems to be having a great year so far, even with the poor weather we have had down south during migration.

Jeremy, it helps us all out when we have as many helpful landlords like you and your dad out there to build up the martin population here in Saskatoon. How many birds are you up to now? I did a nest check after being away for a week with work and found my first martin egg! I picked a great day to do...

Today will be the first day in a week that I will be able to watch my martins most of the day. I am hoping I am able to see a subbie at my place finally.

A week or two I will be heading to PA. I will touch base with you Brad when I finalize my trip so I can stop by.

Jeremy, I am in Brierwood. Are there many active colonies by you? I know of a couple on the highway near wilson's, but not sure what is going on in willow grove. Brad, That's great news! I really hope I can stop by on one of my work trips to PA. I will have to get your contact info one of these days...

Brad,
Things seem to be looking good for you this year. I can't remember if you had told me this or not... But... Did u have any martins at your site last year?

Jef612,
Where are you located in Saskatoon?
