Dick, I like the use of Styrofoam as the interior walls and trays. I would support or make the exterior with aluminum or with wall paneling for strength and most important is reduction of weight. As far as the pole is concerned, I like the use of a 2x2 with .080 thick wall galvanized steel. I got mi...

Thank you Emil........... Nanette, I think the reason the traps in your Grandma is not working is that the sparrows are busy teaching and feeding their young that they are not interested in looking for a nest site (cavity) Since I kept live sparrows in a cage, I have been busy with my pellet rifle. ...

As of 30May06 between the three repeating traps and me have a total of 71 sparrows and 16 starlings this season. With the live sparrows in a cage forty feet away from my martin housing, it attracts the in coming sparrows to this cage instead of the martin housing. This season there is no sparrow dam...

I made the entrances to my Purple Martin houses out of a 3 inch ABS pipe and a piece from a pine fence board for the base. These entrances are the old SREH crescent shape at 2 inches deep. This has not stopped any Purple Martin from getting in but it has stopped most starlings from entering. It also...

I used to remove the handle of the winch and replaced the nut that held the
the winch. Today there is no one to wory about unless my two Jacks decide

Folks,
I know that this will not be practical for the Purple Martin housing far from a faucet,
But to the suburbanites, I think this will be helpful.

Here is the site that Terry placed it on.

Folks, I have tried pellet rifles with power from 620 fps to 1000 fps, pump, springer and pre charged. I found that all of then will produce a consistent result if I stayed on the sights longer. Even the 1000 fps pellet rifle did not produce a good result if I took my eyes off the sight and move the...

Nanette,
This would awesome to make this house you?re getting dedicated to catching
sparrows. This means modifications to the entrances just for the sparrows.

Good luck with this, catch and feed them to the falcons.

Nanette, Thank you????. I have dedicated as much or even more time to catching sparrows than attracting martins to my backyard. I think I?m located on a ?sweet spot? for the martins so I don?t worry much about attracting martins. Ever since the time I saw what the sparrows can do to a martin colony,...

Since I?ve kept live sparrows in a cage forty feet away from my martin housing, I?ve noticed that in the last three nest checks, I?ve not seen any sparrow damage to the martin colony at my backyard. The only draw back as far is that the PMCA baited traps I have has been silent. I?ve been busy with m...

I made a water mister for my PM housing three or four years ago. It worked well enough but I was not there during the day to turn it on when it was needed. Today I suppose one could get a water timer to make this thing be effective. I got all of the materials from Lowe?s (not a plug) garden center. ...

I got home yesterday to find that the PMCA trap caught a white wing dove.

I guess the thin sheet of aluminum I attached to the bottom of the elevator
floor worked too well.

I had plenty of time this weekend and I spent most of it watching how the PMCA baited trap worked. I saw a couple sparrows get in and once it was In the elevator, it hesitated for second then jumps into the holding camber. I also saw a male sparrow wedged it self in between the elevator and the wall...

I lowered it one foot this year and I?ve not seen purple martins
go to it this season. On the other hand it seems to me that there
are fewer martins at my site. It has produced less catch this year
than previous years.
