Archer congrats on teaching them to accept tossed food. You now have it made as they know you are bringing them food. Now its time to teach them to eat from a raised feeder. Start with a platform feeder with no roof. Place Oyster shell on the feeder and also in a plate or something place a small amo...

Curtis, this is great! Now how about doing a short speak at the Camrose Martin festival? They want someone to do a talk on S&S control, seriously you would be the perfect guy. What do you think?

Western Canadian migration seems slow

High folks, I'm getting lots of people contacting me worried that their Martins are not returning in the numbers they expected. It is still fairly early, just wondering what you people further south are experiencing as far as the migration goes. Are our Northern ASY birds still on their way? Any inp...

Thanks John for your detailed report, yes it has been interesting following Marco Polo. From what I have heard from the Ellis Bird farm, Marco was refitted with a second Geo locator and to my knowledge it was recovered in 2014. Still waiting for Kevin to present us with that info this summer. Can't ...

Louise, Great to hear you are getting the rain this year, nothing worse than a drought. All of this world relies on rain. Are you noticing any of our western Canadian Martins moving through now. Our Martins should be hitting a peak migration in the next few weeks moving through Texas.

Just wondering if this one sighting in Manitoba is real. Anne Johnson emailed me today and she is doubtful as this was sighted at a young colony. Never the less, things should start happening very soon.

Hi Curtis, actually the Martins will have trouble entering if the SREH is more than 3/8 inch above the porch. Their breasts hit the bottom of the entrance because their legs are short and way back on their bodies. Flush is OK, but rain water gets in, so ideally, 1/4 inch above the porch is best. The...
