I just did my first full official nest check of the season and was shocked at my findings. I had lowered my housing a week or so ago just to get a count of the number of cavities with nesting material in them, just to get an idea of how many I might have. That day it was 44 cavities with some type of nest in them. I have a total of 68 cavities this year and today I checked and all 68 cavities have nest's or nesting material in them. Of those 68 5 of them could be doubles or SY nests because they are very slight and have a couple green leaves in them. The rests are for sure legit nests.

Here is the surprising part. On this exact day last year I had a total of 15 eggs. Todays nest check I have 187. 44 nests have eggs already and a lot of them have either 5 or 6. If my numbers stopped right now this would be my best year ever. If things keep going smooth this summer I could fledge 300 or so. Going to be a busy place around here. I still don't think the SY migration is over here as I don't have too many SY's, a vast majority are ASY. This is good because I have a couple neighbors who are trying to get colonies established. One has been trying for years and has 3-4 SY pair this year already, hopefully some more move in.....

Wow, that is a great report and wonderful news! Hope your neighbors do end up with birds. Man, thats good.
Very far behind here. This time last year we had chick's, far behind. Some nests are still laying! Way too close to hurricane season for my liking. I suspect we will have eggs that are not viable, too cold and rain when the first ones were laid initially.

.. flyin-lowe .. Great Numbers, at your site.. My birds are a little ahead of last years numbers for June 1st, Last year this time was 5 pair and 9 eggs, This year 26 pair and 100 eggs, on June 1st. Not sure way the different since we had a cool Spring this year... Also my birds at home are doing well so far, with 6 pair and 23 eggs, .. Still early in the season, because some of the nest look really good with lots of green leaves.. Enjoy ...

I'm hoping it's a sign that their instincts are telling them it's going to be a good summer for bugs. I also assume the quicker they have eggs laid the less time they will have to fight the late summer heat. All I have heard about locally is the cicadas but haven't heard or seen one yet in my area.
