An open house/field day on Purple martins will be held Saturday, June
19, at the residence of Evan & Ethel Gingerich, 2282 Johnson-
Washington Road, from 9 am to 2 pm. The Gingerich residence (also the
site of Evan's Sales & Service) is located 1.8 miles north of Kalona,
IA (Hwy 1) and then 1/4 mile east on Johnson-Washington Road.

This event will feature the lowering of martin housing at 9, 10, 11,

local experienced martin landlords will be on hand to answer
questions. If you have contemplated starting a martin colony, this
event will give you real hands-on experience on how to do it right.

Jaclyn Hill, noted Iowa bluebird expert from Ellsworth, IA, will also
be in attendance to answer questions about bluebirds and other cavity
nesting birds.

For further information, contact: Evan Gingerich at 319-359-0997, or
Jim Walters at 319-466-1134.
Mite control, heat venting, predator protection and additional feeding during bad weather add up to success.
