Satellite colony: Oso Bay Preserve: 12 PMCA excluder gourds, 6 room trio mini castle with enlarged compartments.

had to move a chick, 8 days old in a nest of 6. Its siblings were much bigger that it was looked like it wasn't going to compete. He looked to be 5 or 6 days old.

Had a nest with 1 chick, its about 5 days old and same size...the other 4 eggs in that nest didn't make it.

Checked him today he looks like he's eating fine.

That move is kinda iffy but if caught early enough can pay off. Wife thought of that one!

Watched adults close, they didn't miss a beat.

Great idea and thanks for sharing! I definitely had the opportunity to try this in the past but never thought about it. Please let us know how it turns out. I would think a late hatching egg in a brood could benefit when at a disadvantage.

Checked him yesterday, he's gotten a bit bigger and has the typical dirty beak from feeding. Iv quite the mixed bag, some chicks are 12 days old, some born yesterday. Different cavities. Plug and string method calling my name.
